We here at 10,000 Birds are unsure how today became Penguin Awareness Day (though some jingoists think it’s National Penguin Awareness Day) but here we are, being aware of penguins. Corey is a New Yorker who lived most of his life in upstate New York but has lived in Queens since 2008. He's only been birding since 2005 but has garnered a respectable life list by birding whenever he wasn't working as a union representative or spending time with his family. He lives in Forest Hills with Daisy and Desmond Shearwater. PAD was on 1/20. As far as I can tell, it was popularized by a single blogger, The Penguin Geek starting in 2007. Funny to see how much online coverage it’s gotten this year. Proof that one bird blog can have an impact.
