Papscanee Island was calling to me again yesterday evening so I took a quick drive over there and was rewarded with more of the same waterfowl that have been around for the last week or so. A total of at least 48 Green-winged Teal were fun to watch and 6 Snow Geese foraging in a corn field were the first Snow Geese I have ever seen at Papscanee. Recent posts from local listservs had reported Snow Geese migrating north overhead but these six were the first that I know of to be found on the ground around Albany this year.

Many Wild Turkeys were again present and much closer to the road. I watched displaying toms and even got some pictures but I hope to get a better one soon.

I think I’m going to hit some other spots that are more likely for early wood-warblers in the coming days so don’t expect any more Papscanee posts for at least a week or so.
