Birds of Prey Stamps

Come 20 January 2012 birders will have reason to be philatelists as well. That’s because the United States Postal Service will be releasing a set of five stamps, illustrated by Robert Giusti, featuring birds of prey. The five lucky birds are Northern Goshawk, Peregrine Falcon, Golden Eagle, Osprey, and Northern Harrier. Check them out below!

Thought for a minute this was going to be a Duck Stamp replacement for non-consumptive users… Still pretty cool though. I’ll probably pick some up.

Snowy Owl Shot in Kansas

As bad as birders think photographers are and photographers think birders are neither is as bad as the jerk who took a pot shot at a Snowy Owl in Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area, near Great Bend, Kansas. The bird was brought in to a veterinarian but it was too late and the owl died.
