Brown Thrasher at Jamaica Bay

breakfast for my nestlings

I had a great weekend and a great day’s birding today but I’m too tired to do my experiences justice.  So you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to read about how I tracked down three life birds in one day, something I haven’t done since I was at the Salton Sea in California back in January and found five (and if a New Yorker visiting the Salton Sea for the first time doesn’t come away with with at least five life birds, well, they either have birded way too much or aren’t paying attention).

But I couldn’t resist posting some of the shots I got of the most cooperative Brown Thrasher ever.  And if anyone can figure out what that red bug (caterpillar?) in its mouth is please let me know.

Why, yes, I will pose for you!

How cool is this bird?
