Century Run Saga Wrap-Up

After the Century Run Will posted our results to the local listserve and we eagerly awaited other teams’ results. There was this impressive count from Saratoga Spa State Park, and this one from Vischer Ferry. The Vischer Ferry report was very interesting as the group there spotted some birds that we missed in our rain-shortened stop, including a Mourning Warbler and a Wilson’s Warbler.

Now, for the record, the Century Run is not really a competition, as there is no prize money or trophy, but we really wanted the bragging rights of seeing the most birds for the second year in a row. So when Larry Alden posted his team’s results on the listserv, and I read that they had spotted 125 species (and just in Albany County) I was a bit deflated. Beaten by two lousy birds! Oh well, to quote Brooklyn Dodgers fans: “Wait ’til next year!”

There were a couple of other teams out there on the Century Run as well but they haven’t posted anything to the listserve so we won’t know how they did until the fall issue of the Hudson Mohawk Bird Club’s newsletter comes out.
