Charlie Moores
…Is average height, average build etc…mid/late-forty-something, though still feeling twenty-something except on some mornings feeling fifty-something (and looking it)…
Lives not far from Bath in Wiltshire, UK, with partner Jo (light of my life, best friend etc) and about six miles from daughter Emily (one of two best daughters in the entire world etc). Is also the proud and happy father to “the Pixie” (the other best daughter in the whole world), a little girl Jo and I adopted from China (it took us three years and, yes, she was worth every second of the wait)…is vegetarian and is absurdly and ridiculously contented with my life right now…a little less debt would help come to think of it…
Has been working as Cabin Crew for a British airline for almost twenty years - hence the opportunities to go round the world birding - and will continue to have the largest carbon footprint of any conseravtion wannabee on the planet until my undoubted genius as a writer/photographer/webmonkey/decent guy gets recognised…so will continue to do so for the forseeable future (I predicted this some years ago, and - yes - still flying…*sigh*)…
Would like to re-define the way blogs support conservation, and turn the world into one huge conservation group finally defeating the evil “Develepor”…co-founded the Korean environmental organisation Birds Korea with my inspirational brother Nial, and thinks that getting video of a group of Nordmann’s Greenshank while crushed into an abandoned pump-house on the Korean west coast might just be the most memorable and joyous birding moment so far…
Except seeing Pink Pigeons in Mauritius comes pretty close now I think about it…and Streak-chested Antpitta in Panama…oh, so many good things out there…
Particularly enjoys birding in South/Central America, South Africa, Australia, Europe, and East Asia…once saw 1965 bird species in a year to raise money for parrot conservation in the Caribbean…has seen around 3200 species now (only 6,800 to go)…would like to visit the Antarctic before it vanishes under a flood of meltwater…
Would most like to meet Sir David Attenborough (we certainly are NOT worthy), and have a long chat with Robert Smith/The Cure (grew up listening to them for hours a day) and Morrissey (the greatest lyricist who ever picked up a pen and undoubtedly one of the most interesting people alive)…is a huge fan of Slowdive (check out “Souvlaki”), and would like to interview any band into conservation for the blog…
Wants to thank you for reading all this and for looking at 10,000 Birds…I’m loving every second of this blog and I hope you are too…

Hi Charlie,
I have found you! Judging by the great web site, you are still alive & kicking & enjoying the natural world.
Carol & I are still in the UAE, although I have recently changed jobs. Have visited Phillipines and SW India so far this year. Both great trips.
Sea watching in the heat (48 degrees C)! Recorded Long tailed Skua & 12 Brown Noddies off Fujairah the other day.
We still own Sabie Park & we spent eleven weeks there last year, with some great mammal sightings ie Leopard from the garden (twice)! Hoping to get down there in December this year, the birding will be great with all the migrants around.
Hope you & your are all well & happy.
Drop me a line if you getb the chance.
Cheers
Steve
[...] Charlie Moores is one of three who run 10,000 Birds. Founded by Mike Bergin, this very popular birding blog is based in the US. And was I surprised to learn that Charlie operates from his base in Britain. But then he is travelling around the world most of the time. In fact he was in Singapore only a few days ago, on 31st October 2008, to be exact. [...]
