House Crow eradicated from Socotra
By Charlie • July 6, 2009 • 1 commentExcellent news on the BirdLife website that the invasive and aggressive House Crow has been eradicated from Socotra - a remote island off the Horn of Africa with (depending on upcoming taxonomic decisions) as many as ten endemic bird species.

We can say this was an excellent cooperation project in which the local Yemeni authorities of the Environment Protection Authority and its Invasive Species Control Group worked together with our company who for the eradication of the last dozend birds had provided the hunting expertise on site.
The whole project was funded by the Global Environment Facility - Small Grant Programm (GEF/SGP) in Yemen and we like to thank them very much for making it happen by their support.
The work is part of an international effort to stop the spread of this highly invasive species in the affected regions.
We are still seeking information about the species’ spread and have created a fact sheet at the IUCN Global Invasive Species Data Base, summarising the information collected so far. If you have more observations or news about this bird in its non-native area of occurrence we are interested to hear from you.
Please contact the people mentioned in the fact sheet of the IUCN/ISSG database. Many thanks !
