Robert Mortensen hazards a guess at Birding Is Fun while sharing tips to increase that number. How many birders, as opposed to general wildlife watchers, do you think there are in the United States? If you live outside the U.S., how many full-fledged birders are there in your country?
Thanks for sharing the link Mike. I think your earlier posts about freeloaders started a lot of the Facebook discussion that inspired my post.
It’s a interesting question raised. Would be fun to know….
The “German Club300” has around 500 members, so I reckon there are around 600 to 700 serious “listers” in my country.
The online platform “ornitho.de” (the equivalent to eBird) has around 5000 or more participants, and the “German Assiciation of field avifaunists” has around 9000 members. So I am guessing there are somewhere in the range of 15.000 to 20.000 birders in Germany.
