Juvenile Sanderlings Calidris alba
Miami, Florida. November 2004

Adult Sanderlings usually complete their moult to non-breeding plumage by the end of September.

The following four individuals, part of a flock of about twenty birds, are juveniles in different stages of moult photographed in early November: note the dark tertials and “mottled” upperparts of the two birds in images 01 - 04, and the more advanced moult of the bird featured in images 06 - 08.

He wants to be a writer, and thinks no-one would believe his life could be so charmed if he didn't take photos of as many of the birds he sees as possible. Blogging with 10,000 Birds fits his aims, needs, and insecurities perfectly. Really - do birders get much more fortunate than this?
