Making Plans for March
By Charlie • February 12, 2008 • 6 commentsNo sooner had I got home from Los Angeles (the reports are here and here), that the rosters for March came out (I work for an airline when I’m not birding) - and I’ve been given another Los Angeles trip! Where, I mused in a mail to my good mate San Jose resident Jack Cole, should I go this time? How about Frank G. Bonelli Park, he said, where I just photographed this long-staying visitor…

Frank G.’s it is then. Now I need to just hope the bird hangs around until March 9th…

Oh, come on Charlie, no sweat, just another warbler…
“Just another warbler”? I guess compared to a Reed Warbler it’s a pretty dull bird - NOT :)) Tell me you wouldn’t twitch one if it turned up in Stralsund??
Awesome photo! And pay no attention to Jochen. He used to live in Ann Arbor, so what could he possibly have to say about birds?
Wren, you’re right. From now on I shall just ignore him :)) (Only joking…)
Well, yes, Charlie, I did miss my usual Reed Warblers at Crane Creek while checking all those breeding plumage male Magnolias in hopes of finding an Acrocephalus.
No luck though, boring place. Can you believe it, a day with 20 or more American warblers and no Reed amongst them? Not even anything comparable?
And of course, if one (American warbler) turned up anywhere in Germany, I wouldn’t twitch it … I’d be the one who initially FOUND the bird!
What else did you expect?
And yes, Wren, you are right, what could a former Arb dweller and Dolph veteran possibly have to say about warblers? That he misses them?
No way!
And last but not least:
Charly, you can try to ignore me, but you just can’t escape me…
Mwhahahahaha
;-))))
So, me and a turkey vulture. Hmmmm. Is there a hidden message here? Charlie, you might want to email warblerod AT verizon.net, who lives in a trailer park near Frank G, and ask him how long the redstart has remained the past two years. Or ask if he would check it out just before your trip.
