National De-lurking Week

By January 12, 2007 15 comments

National De-lurking WeekWow, where have I been? The second week of January is almost over, yet I just found out that we’re observing National De-lurking Week. I suppose it’s not too late to celebrate, is it?

What’s that? You don’t know what National De-lurking Week is?

This is an invitation to anyone who reads this blog, or any other blog for that matter, to step out of the shadows and say hello. If you’re a regular reader or incidental browser of 10,000 Birds but haven’t been moved to comment, please consider yourself moved. I’d love to hear from you.

For those lurkers who’d like a little more structure to the de-lurking process, let me help you help me. Or is that help you help me help you? Just tell me what would make this site more enjoyable for you. What content or blog features would improve 10,000 Birds? Could the site use more trip reports or fewer? More photos or fewer? More about me, less about me, more birds or bugs or blogging or reviews or politics or sports or poetry? Maybe more pictures of my adorable children? Come on, lurkers, tell me what you like!

  1. Hello dammit!

  2. More photos are always a plus, but that is hard (for me at least because I don’t always take my camera everywhere and some things are hard to show with original photos).

I like your blog a lot so I wouldn’t change too much. I think the link to the core team wasn’t working (the last I checked). Could be my Mac. Thus, a bit more about you and your gang would be cool. More is always better as long as it’s not boring. Keep up the good work!

  3. My problem is that I never seem to find the time to even read the major bird blogs with any regularity, let alone submit comments on individual posts. But just because you don’t hear from me doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate what you’re doing, Mike. Your development and coordination of the I and the Bird carnival is a particularly notable contribution. Keep blogging!

  4. Hi.

  5. I especially like the book reviews. It’s hard to find reviews on other bird-books than field guides. Birding is more than just identification (a lifestyle). To me it is anyway. Blog on!

  6. “Atta Boy” Mike!
    Some blogs are toooooo personal
    Some blogs are toooooo commercial
    Some blogs are toooooo wordy
    Some blogs are toooooo impersonal…
Yours is just right! You are my mentor, tutor, educator and
    we’ve not even met.

  7. This de-lurking thing is pretty cool. It’s great to hear from all of you, particularly the new voices. Keep it coming!

  8. It seems just right to me. Perhaps more photos – but then – I’m a sucker for photos of birds.

  9. I like everything about your site, Mike. You manage to always have something interesting to post.

  10. Dave beat me to it. Hello Dammit

  11. Well Mike, I think you should change your blog a lot and in a substantial way:
Whatever you’ve done up to now, we demand MORE of it!

  12. I’m with Jochen.

  13. Thank you all for your fantastic comments!

  14. I’m no lurker, but I’ll join in on the fun.

  15. Ok, OK, I confess. I’m a lurker too.

What you’re doing is great in my novice eyes.

Thanks for being here. We need more like you. :)
