Palm Warbler at Last

1st wood warbler of the year

my first local wood-warbler of the year!

On Wednesday after my failed foray after a Common Gull in Brooklyn and my successful search for a Red-headed Woodpecker in Manhattan I headed north to meet up with Will to bird the Coxsackie Creek Grasslands Preserve before it got dark.

While waiting for Will to show up I watched a Palm Warbler displace a tail-pumping Eastern Phoebe from its perch (I guess it wanted to wag its tail there). Finally, my first local wood-warbler of the year! So, to say thanks to the Palm Warbler I am awarding this early-arriving migrant with the Weekend Picture. Enjoy!

the most Palm Warblers I will ever get in one picture

What are you spishing at?

Have a warbler-filled weekend, or failing that, at least a bird-filled weekend!

  1. Likely the last warbler you will ever see. The Ice age is upon us! Redpolls nesting in the hedges, Rough-Legged Hawks hunting over the fields… I think I just heard a Snowy Owl calling… Enjoy the April snow…

  2. Very cool! I can’t wait for our palms to arrive! Looks like you should be getting some snow this weekend (more than us)!

  3. Oh joy, another nor’easter on its way…as if this spring hasn’t been tough enough for the insectivores. I guess we’re paying the price now for waiting until mid-January for winter to start!
