Philadelphia Vireo Vireo philadelphicus
Rondeau, Ontario May 2005.

The Philadelphia Vireo was first discovered (as it’s name suggests) in Philadelphia in the 1940s, but is only a migrant through that area. The vast majority summer in southern Canada and are only migrants through the eastern half of the United States. They are most often found high in the treetops and rarely sing during migration, so are perhaps widely overlooked on spring passage.

The Philadelphia Vireo uses deciduous or mixed woodlands during the summer breeding season, especially near woodland edges or in young second-growth forest. It uses open woodlands in the tropics during the winter. Numbers appear to be stable and the species is not of specific conservation concern.

He wants to be a writer, and thinks no-one would believe his life could be so charmed if he didn't take photos of as many of the birds he sees as possible. Blogging with 10,000 Birds fits his aims, needs, and insecurities perfectly. Really - do birders get much more fortunate than this?
