Raccoons and a Turtle

By Corey June 4, 2007 1 comment

This raccoon was raiding the feeders at Five Rivers the last time I was there, the same day I photographed a Painted Turtle.

What? I didn’t do nothin.

mmm…sunflower seeds

About two minutes after I started observing him he climbed down, scratched around in the seed for awhile, and wandered off.  Then the birds came back.

Also, if anyone is wondering if Barn Owls use the nest boxes at Jamaica Bay I would say probably not, at least not this box:

is it dark yet?

Less cute was the sandy spot in the trail (on the way to Big John’s Pond) where it looked like a raccoon had been digging.  Daisy and I also found a snapping turtle near there, and we wondered if the raccoon had found its eggs.

I hope my eggs are safe…dratted raccoon!

  1. Raccoons are determined animals.-A friend and I were hanging out near a ballfield surrounded by woods.-At dusk, 14 Raccoons came out of the woods and started raiding the park garbage cans-they sure weren’t afraid of us.
