Ring-necked Parakeets go Boom?

By Charlie October 5, 2009 1 comment

We brought them over, we released them, we made the UK inhospitable for many smaller native species by ripping up hedges, cutting down woodland, and building all over prime habitat, and in so doing allowed these hardy and adaptable birds to move in and thrive - and now we’re going to kill them…According to a report, “Open season has been declared on ring-necked parakeets — the vibrant green squawking birds seen across parts of southern England”. What was that saying about people, glass houses, and throwing stones…?
