Rufous Turtle Dove Streptopelia orientalis orientalis
Narita-san, Honshu, Japan. 18 January 2006

These Rufous Turtle Doves were photographed on a dull, grey day at the Narita-san Temple complex in the town of Narita (1 hour north of Tokyo). Common throughout East Asia and resident in both Japan and South Korea, they belong to the nominate form orientalis, which has grey tips to the tail feathers (unlike the more western meena which has white tail tips).

Charlie works for an airline and has birded all over the world for twenty years. He wants to be a writer, and thinks no-one would believe his life could be so charmed if he didn't take photos of as many of the birds he sees as possible. Blogging with 10,000 Birds fits his aims, needs, and insecurities perfectly. Really - do birders get much more fortunate than this?
