Sharpe’s Longclaw project: donations transfer
By Charlie • September 26, 2008 • 6 commentsI thought that 10,000 Birds readers may be interested to know that the first part of the donations raised for the Small African Fellowship for Conservation has been deposited in Kenya, and funds will start to be distributed on a monthly basis to Dominic Kimani from the start of October as planned.
I’m sure anyone who donates to a project like this needs to be assured that the money raised is going where it’s promised (or more specifically where I said it would be going!) and I’m very pleased to be able to post a copy of a reciept from the National Museums of Kenya for 120,000 Kenyan shillings - which equates to almost 1624 US Dollars (conversion made today on XE.com).

That leaves over 700 US dollars (which I’ll be handing to the project co-ordinators in Kenya personally in a few weeks) to fund Dominic’s expenses, buy extra educational materials, and allow him to eat properly while he’s toiling through the Aberdare Mountains at over 6000′ looking for the last few Sharpe’s Longclaws in existence. And it’s all thanks to you - so pats on the back all around and thanks very much once again!
There’s still time to Chip In a dollar (or more) by the way: the appeal ends at the end of the month but every dollar will help make the project more efficient and more successful, so please don’t think that it won’t. If you’d like to donate just click the Chip In widget to the right and accept our grateful thanks…

Congratulations to 10,000 Birds on making this project happen. Without small successes there can be no big ones. Now if you can work on Global Warming.
Thanks Wes - and everyone else who contributed!
Incidentally Jo just minutes ago came back from a meeting where she works and was given the insider news that new data suggests that if the world doesn’t cut back on CO2 emissions by 90% we’ll be seeing a 2.5 degree rise in temperature WITHIN 10 YEARS (no, I can’t give the source, but it’s from way up the scientific circuit). Frankly, we’re all in a great deal of trouble…
Gosh, if only some major world superpower had $700 billion dollars just hanging around for emergencies, and could throw all that money at emissions reduction and alternate energy sources.
I saw someone else do this for a fund raiser. It’s kind of interesting to see the other side of the money trail. Thanks, and I hope all goes well with the project.
Hey Charlie, congrats on the Sharpe’s project! And I think Carrie hit the nail on the head! I imagine we could get a pretty good head start on the alternative energy with $700 Billion.
