Autumn is now upon us, isn’t it? Crossing the 42nd latitude yesterday, I saw quite a bit of color in rolling, wooded hills. The first weekend of fall (or spring, depending on your perspective) can be a feast for the eyes. So what are you looking at this weekend and are birds on this itinerary? Comment below on the excitement you have planned!
I’m in the NYC area celebrating my beautiful niece Alexa’s first birthday. Corey will probably pull himself away from tapping out the next installment of Birdtopia long enough to chase birds around the boroughs. As far as Charlie goes, who knows where he’ll be this weekend… wherever you might be, I suggest you keep your eyes out for a keen-eyed Brit with a love of liberal commentary and life birds!
Regardless of how you plan to celebrate the beginning of a new season, be sure to celebrate Sky Watch Friday…
If you awaken early enough, you might be treated to a dawn like this Chicago sunrise by Charlie.
The early bird catches the sunrise!
Beautiful image of a great city,
happy birdwatching!
I have been a lot in the Neusiedl area, the lake and its reedbeds are an important stop for birds migrating south.
Actually, I’ll be looking for desert birds and migrants in Kuwait – a place where liberal views are even less welcome than round at Greg’s house…:)
AWESOME photo I am not much for big cities but this is just lovely! thank you:)
Beautiful sky. Charlie is brave.
Yeah! Autumn is here and its getting colder… Nice catch….. Great job! Happy Skywatch! Hope you can visit my SWF entry too…
perfect skyline picture
wow, that is stunning! happy swf. 🙂
what a magnificent shot. nice vista.
Awesome sunrise, Charlie!

I’ll be attending the annual Monterey Bay Birding Festival this weekend. I’m hoping by Sunday afternoon to have seen a California Condor. But I’ll be happy to add other lifers to my list, too.
Gorgeous skyline! I love the colours!
Great SWF Post!
I be out and about – nothing specific – but I’d be shootin’!
Cheers, Klaus
Lovely photo, I always keep an eye out for birds whether at home or away from it. Not your standard of photography though.
Beautiful scene. Nice colors.
Mike,
Thanks for visit my blog.
I would like to ask you if I´ve classified wrong that Tanager.
I want to learn about Birding.
Luiz Ramos
Luiz, it looks to me like you got the ID right.
The Sayaca Tanager is said to be one of the most common birds seen in Brazil. The Azure-shouldered Tanager in south-east Brazil looks a bit more colorful than your tanager. Also, while Sayaca may be confused with juvenile Blue-Gray, I don’t know if these species overlap in your area.
And if you want to learn about birding, you’ve come to the right place! I for one would like to learn more about Brazilian birds.
Off to Montezuma NWR tomorrow, rain or no rain!
A beautiful posting for any day of the week… Sky Watch is honoured to have you show for us…
As for birding I am trying without much success to get a desent shot of a Wood Warbler that seems to be roosting in one of my two Silver Birch…
I’ll be working on transect counts on an urban bird study in Milwaukee, WI (see http://home.earthlink.net/~iltlawas/id16.html ) – expecting a slow movement of birds tomorrow due to day after recent day of southerly wind flow. Maybe better next week – hoping for a cold front!
I’ll be working, but maybe I can spot those crazy blue jays. Gorgeous shot.
I will be going to Rock Cut State Park to go birding this weekend. I really like your Chicago photo.
I don’t live very far from Chicago.
