Where Are You Birding this Second Weekend of April 2009?

By April 9, 2009 11 comments

The second weekend of April is significant for many reasons. The most obvious, of course, is the rapid transition from an extreme season to a more temperate and migratorially-gifted one. Anyone who exists at the intersection of United States citizen and chronic procrastinator may well know this weekend as the last chance to do those taxes! Whether you’re headed outside with bins and a camera or staying inside with a calculator and a stack of forms, we’re interested in what you’ll be doing. Share your plans in the comments below!

Today is my birthday (feel free to shower me with well wishes… now that I’m 40, I need them!) I have no idea what I’m doing as Sara has a surprise cooked up for me, but rumor has it some birding is involved. Corey knows what he’s doing, namely shuttling his young nieces around New York City and State. Charlie, lucky, lucky Charlie is in Brazil and may be observing the newly-described Sao Paulo Antwren at the very moment!

Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday

Lest you’ve forgotten that we’re still unpacking our Mesoamerican adventures, here’s a shot Corey took on the road to Copan, Honduras

  8. Happy 40th birthday, Mike! My own 40th is in just a few weeks. However, my husband didn’t get me a 29th birthday present in 1998 and ever since then I have decided that I’m going to stay stuck at 28 until the present arrives. Needless to say, I’ve forbidden him to get me one. On the other hand, some nice digiscoping equipment might persuade me…

  9. This is a beautiful photo. So picturesque.

  10. A beautiful scene, just so right for Skywatch.

  11. I will spend a bit of my Easter communing with a pair of Coopers Hawks as they set-up shop to bring this year’s generation into the world. They have used the same hidden glen of oaks (Santa Monica Mountains/Los Angeles) for at least four years. Last weekend I spotted the female scoping out old nest sites. I have yet to see the male this year.
