Does anyone out there remember the film The Endless Summer? This surf classic centers around the idea that one could, with sufficient time and money, follow good surf all over the world. One of my old college roommates — a surfer, obviously — hung the poster for inspiration. I was definitely inspired, but not by the surfing. An endless summer would be truly splendid were it not for the fact that birding can be pretty dull during summer months. How about an endless spring? Whatever you call it, your endless birding summer must include the Texas Gulf Coast. The photo above, which inspired this reverie, came from James Currie’s outstanding visit to the King Ranch in search of Ferruginous Pygmy-Owls.

This weekend, neither Corey nor I expect to do much birding. However, that could change if that infernal Gyrfalcon pops up at Montezuma NWR again! How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.

Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
