Where Are You Birding This Third Weekend of July 2009

By July 16, 2009 4 comments

Summer doldrums getting you down? Remember that this season has far more to offer than just birds (assuming that’s something you’re into anyway.)  Butterflies, dragonflies, wildflowers, and a wide world of flora and fauna are out there wherever you are to be observed and enjoyed. If you’ve never paid particular attention to dragonflies, for instance, this weekend would be the perfect time to really put your eyes on one and observe its alien beauty. Speaking of this weekend, what are you doing? Will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below!

I’ve got big plans for this weekend with the arrival of the 11th Annual Chicken Inferno, a family and friends event like no other. Corey will be birding in Ulster County this weekend, showing (if he’s lucky) his father his first meadowlarks in decades. Charlie will be at home and hopefully get some local birding done at Great Chalfield.

Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday

Corey snapped some gorgeous skies over Montgomery County, New York while chasing Mississippi Kites

  1. That’s very nice. It looks a lot like some of the countryside near me.

  2. Those are glorious skies! Our sky was full of lightening tonight when a storm rolled in over the Santa Rita Mountains. I hope to go birding in Rio Rico tomorrow morning, then stay in for the weekend since temps are predicted to be 108 both days!

  3. Wow!!!! it looks so cool and fantastic place. I love such peaceful places. Thanks for sharing it.

  4. Looks beautiful- I can just imagine the smell of summer hayfields in upstate New York and hear the Barn Swallows zipping around. Thanks for posting that photo. This third weekend of July, I didn’t get out birding but I hope to either bird in mountain forests or hit the Pacific coast for a day sometime this week after being stuck inside with a cold for waaaay too long.
