May might be the month for mothers but June is when most countries that choose to recognize fathers and male parenting celebrate Father’s Day. Ironically, many dads indulge themselves on Father’s Day by getting away from the kids. I’ll settle for sleeping in! How will you be celebrating Father’s Day or just the third weekend of June? Will you be watching birds? Share your plans in the comments below!

I’m still immersed in the Rochester International Jazz Festival, which has attracted phenomenal artists from all over the world to our humble yet soulful corner of North America. With acts like Taj Mahal, Susan Tedeschi, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds lined up for the weekend, I expect to be too tired to do much birding. Plus it’s Father’s Day, remember? Corey, blissfully unencumbered by paternal responsibilities, is planning an epic bird blitz of Suffolk County. Look out, all you Hamptons summer folk! Charlie may be squandering his special day with professional obligations which means no birding or breakfast in bed for him. Poor Charlie.

Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday

Corey’s killer sky shots from Kazakhstan keep coming, this one from Big Almaty Lake
