Friends, birders, countrymen (and women)– lend me your ears. I come not to praise winter, but to bury it. Those of us occupying the boreal half of the planet can give Old Man Winter an exuberant sendoff this weekend, while you on the austral side can say so long to summer. How will you be observing the last weekend of winter (or summer) and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.

This weekend will be busy for me, and not just because I consider St. Patrick’s Day a reasonable excuse for rowdy behavior (as if I needed one.) For the last 8 years, March 17 has meant much more to me that beer and bad food. That’s when we celebrate Masemas, the birthday of my son. Since these celebrations tend to last many days, I don’t foresee much birding! Corey, who also needs no excuse but injustice for rowdy behavior, will be staying local in NYC.

hatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!

Oh to be in KwaZulu-Natal, gazing upon the mighty Drakensberg Mountains!
