The 2013 ABA Bird of the Year has been announced. Congratulations to the Common Nighthawk! It’s a nice bird, though no Green Heron.
It’s well worth clicking over to the ABA Blog and checking out the video announcing the 2013 selection. Seriously.

Green Heron has been on the short list for the last two years. One of these days it’ll break through…
Thanks for sharing the announcement Corey. I know we continue to disappoint you, but Nate is right. Green Heron is always on the short list, mostly because of you. I think some ABA Staff members suggested we should hold out on selecting the Green Heron just to enjoy watching you squirm for a couple more years.
The common nighthawk is on my list of must-see birds for 2013…but so far, it’s proving quite UNcommon! I hope I get to see one, at any rate!
