Hot on the heels of recent mainstream birding movie The Big Year comes another new ‘birding’ movie A Birder’s Guide to Everything (ABGE). ABGE is currently in pre-production and is being produced by Rob Meyer. It would appear to be a ‘coming of age’ movie aimed at the teen market, more background is available at Rob Meyer Films here or from the teaser video below.

Weird thing is, I’m 13, shy, reclusive, sensitive, socially awkward, and completely obsessed with birds…
I WANNA GO LOOK FOR EXTINCT DUCKS WITH THAT DUDE!!!
How often do you get a second chance? Hopefully the birding community will be gentler and more supportive of this movie than it was for The Big Year.
I don’t understand why so many bits of other movies are spliced into that teaser. I was really stoked when I saw Jason Schwartzman (who could play a GREAT birder character), but when I saw Natalie Portman I knew it was too good to be true. Well, hopefully it will be ok.
I’m still waiting for Christopher Guest to make a birding movie, but I would happily take one from Wes Anderson…
I too had a “woah! Natalie Portman??” moment.
I did love that silhouetted scene in front of the jellyfish aquarium – I took a shot very similar to that at monterey a couple of years back and even though it didn’t quite come off I’ve always thought how cool it looked.
As for the movie I’m confident it’ll be not bad but also not really anything to do with birding.
Hey guys — thanks for the shout out! The video you see there is something I made to get people excited about the movie (before we shot it) so it includes shots from existing movies to get across the tone and feel. But the good news is we’ve now shot the movie! And Sir Ben Kingsley plays a large role. So if folks want to follow along, please “Like” us on Facebook — “A Birder’s Guide to Everything”. Thanks!
