How was your weekend? Did Santa bring you any good birds? Don’t be shy… tell us about your best bird!
The best bird of my weekend had to be the Red-tailed Hawk soaring with the gulls over Giant Stadium during the last Giants game at that hallowed arena. Corey reveled in feeder birds at his parents’ house. Charlie frolicked with the Northern Lapwings and European Golden Plovers at Great Chalfied.

Had a bird blogger convention of sorts when David Ringer of Search and Serendipity and I checked out a Rufous Hummingbird while home for the holidays.
I hadn’t seen a Tufted Titmouse in my yard in a few years. Not sure why. But one showed up yesterday.
Northern Harrier, seen at Ballona Wetlands with Amy Hooper.
Nothing out of the ordinary so far as species is concerned, but I did enjoy a rather vigorous argument between a tufted titmouse and a white-breasted nuthatch (with a downy woodpecker who mistakenly got in the middle of it). Much to my surprise, the nuthatch won and claimed the tree limb that was in dispute.
Burrowing Owl! It was about time too, I was thrilled. Snagged a couple photos in bad (lack of) light. Here’s the post- <a href=”http://nutcase007.blogspot.com/2009/12/burrowing-owl-finally.html” Burrowing Owl
Hmm…that didn’t go as planned. I have issues with html.

Brown-headed Nuthatch in North Carolina, which completes my roster of North American nuthatches.
Yeah, the Rufous was awesome, and it was good to see Nate again and meet his wife and their adorable baby. 🙂
Rock wren on the back porch; Bewick’s wren came through later, making it a 3-wren-porch for the weekend, when you add in the everpresent Cactus wrens.
Fortunately I was in transit to South Carolina for the holidays and got a look at my first ever Masked Duck at Viera Wetlands, FL.
