Let me be honest… I have no idea what my best bird of the weekend was. I mean, of course now that the weekend is over, I have a firm grasp of which birds tickled me most over the past few days. But I’m writing this very early in the weekend, while at the airport waiting to jet off to somewhere I may or may not have even shared with readers yet. Do you follow? So let’s say that Corey and I may not be able to tell you our best birds of the weekend yet, but they were lifers and they were epic!
What was your best bird of the weekend? Tell us in the comments section about the rarest, loveliest, or most fascinating bird you observed. If you’ve blogged about your weekend experience, you should include a link in your comment.
It turns out mine was my life Syrian Woodpecker, or, actually, a whole family of Syrian Woodpeckers.
@Corey: well, easy-peasy in Hungary. No sweat, no threat. 😉
Mine was a nice Eurasian Jay on my garage yesterday. Next weekend will be more interesting as I depart for Eastern Kazakhstan in 5 hours and will be there until the 20th of June.
Best bird of the weekend was a Cuban Race Yellow Warbler found off of Card Sound Road in Miami-Dade County. Also seen that day was Black-whiskered Vireo and a heard only Mangrove Cuckoo.
My best bird of the weekend was not anything rare but a bird I see multiple times per week. I had a Great Egret flyover my fiance’s backyard. It was as WHITE and as GRAND as the PEGASUS against the blue sky. It was something magical for me.
I liked the Double-toothed Kite that was soaring above a forested canyon near Ciudad Colon, Costa Rica. Great lighting on it.
I went hiking in a Montane forest of Pacific Silver Firs, fallen logs, and a rushing creek in the Olympic National Forest. All along the moss-covered path we could hear Pacific Wrens (formerly known as Winter Wrens) singing their lovely and complex songs. Only once did a curious Pacific Wren show himself as he sang, clutching a snag and looking down upon us.
Wasn’t able to get out this weekend, but bad a nice Black-crowned Night Heron flying down the Chicago River this morning. Oh, and I finally heard Common Nighthawks surfing right past my windows. Hopefully a cold front/storms will bring in some fun stuff tonight!
@John Field: A Great Egret flyover is definitely something to behold!
@Meredith – It definitely was….
