Migratory months are made for Big Days, Big Sits, and generally Big birding hauls. How Big was your weekend?
Corey had an amazing day on Saturday at Fort Tilden doing his Big Sit. (He’ll be posting all about it later today.) During the sit there were lots of good birds as is only to be expected but the one he nominates for his Best Bird of the Weekend was any of the three unexpected Turkey Vultures that came soaring through near the end of the day, mostly because they were so unlikely and came directly over the platform. My weekend wasn’t very birdy, but for the Peregrine Falcon found munching on some unidentifiable prey in a mall parking lot!
How about you? What was your best bird of the weekend? Tell us in the comments section about the rarest, loveliest, or most fascinating bird you observed. If you’ve blogged about your weekend experience, you should include a link in your comment.
Toughie, saw some good birds this weekend. The Musselburgh American White-winged Scoter showed well in good light, joined in a wee flock by a drake Surf Scoter and my bird of the weekend, a drake Greater Scaup. It’s the first Greater Scaup I’ve see for a while.
I am going with a new Lifer in the form of a Crissal Thrasher, in New Mexico.
