The Varied Thrush that I twitched back in November in Central Park is still around and even out-of-towners are appreciating it of late. Both Redgannet and John have been to see it recently. New York City and New York State birders have been to see it. Why haven’t you?

Because it wasn’t where it was supposed to be (in front of my bins) when I tried for it for over an hour this morning! Oof. (But, nice Myrtle Warbler in the Ramble, and Wood Duck, RH Woodpecker, and YB Sapsucker.)

A Varied Thrush in Central Park must qualify as a really rare bird, but I imagine this is not the first record. Cory, what can you tell us about previous records of this most handsome Turdid in the NYC?
It was nice meeting you in the park on Tuesday. Did you find the Yellow-rumped Warbler?

well it is obvious that the Varied Thrush is varied confused. The bird probably knew that if it flew to its wintering grounds, there would a giant WAL- MART where it’s home used to be. Heck, I’d stay in NYC too.And , Dang! i am presently in the mid-south far from my home in Northern VT. or i’d be there with the lot of you looking at that bird( which is not on my list)!@#$%^&* lucky for you that get to see that beauty….

I have had a pair of Varied Thrush here at my home in Maine since December. The bird experts here tell me they will probably stay until March.
