Yes, it is time for another diabolical ID quiz. This one is all about ducks, and, to make it a bit easier, just drakes. The rules are the same as the last one: put your guesses in the comments, making sure to indicate which picture each guess applies to. And use the FULL common names of the birds when you guess, that is, if you are guessing that a bird is a teal, specify the species, as in “Green-winged Teal.” No prizes are available, just the undying admiration and respect of the folks who read and write this blog.

Best of luck and I’ll be checking in on occasion to see how the guessing goes. An answer post will be up by Wednesday.
Update: Because numbers 3 and 5 were too easy I’m adding a sixth picture that is super diabolical!
Diabolical Waterfowl ID Quiz Picture Number 6
1. Gadwall
2. Blue-winged Teal
3. Ring-necked Duck
4. Black Duck
5. Cinnamon Teal
What John said.
But American Wigeon for #2.
Glad you guys are back up!
Without looking at a book (more fun that way) I guess:
1. Gadwall
2. American Wigeon
3. Ring-necked Duck
4. Wood Duck
5. Cinnamon Teal
Agree with Nathan… although I’m not positive on 2. That’s a toughy.
1. Mallard
2. Manky Mallard
3. A Mallard that’s Manky
4. Mallard-Manky Mallard Hybrid (try saying that 3 times fast)
5. A Manky Cinnamon Teal
Man, you guys are too good. Everyone got numbers 3 and 5 (well, except Will, but he expected that). Somebody has gotten number 2 and someone has gotten number 4. No one has number 1…
And now I’ve added a super-diabolical number 6!
Just wait until we get to the hens quiz…
#6 is clearly a marmoset sitting on a Hudsonian Godwit. Try something challenging next time…
I’m sticking with #2 as BW Teal. I think Drew is correct that #4 is a wood duck. #6 looks like Eurasian Wigeon.
John must be right on BW Teal for #2.
Changing to Am Wigeon for #1 and Euro Wigeon for #6.
You all went the wrong way on #2!
And #4 is a Wood Duck. #1 is still not identified.
Somehow Mike nailed #6.
Kidding! John and Nathan are half-right on #6.
2 is Manky Mallard? Tricksy!
Half-right huh? Either Euro or Wigeon. I’ll go with Euro. Is it a Pochard?
my guess is number 1 is a redhead – a diabolical redhead
Revised guesses:
1. Northern Pintail
6. American Wigeon
Aha, #6 is an American X European Wigeon Hybrid.
1=pintail
2=widgon
3=ring neck
4=wood duck
5=cinnamin teal
5=what mike said
#1 is a Lesser Scaup.
#6 is a Eurasian Wigeon.
I thought 2 was a Gadwall but must be Mallard from what Corey is saying.
