The American Bird Conservancy announced a new study that feral cats prey on the endangered Hawaiian Petrel. At the risk of sounding insensitive, duh. Scientists might find it more challenging to seek out evidence of which bird species, particularly non-Arctic, island-bound species, are NOT preyed upon by birds. That would be news.

I don’t think ostriches are preyed on by birds. Or feral cats for that matter, which is what I think you were trying to say.
But I think it is perhaps slight disingenuous to compare predation by cats on insular and seabird species to that of mainland species. Insular and seabird species did not evolve to cope with any mammalian predators. Feral cats in low numbers in other areas would be much less of a problem (assuming moronic people weren’t supporting their numbers by feeding them).
Sounds like they are as good at taking care of feral cat populations as they are in Florida.
They should do drives as they did with jackrabbits. It would be a much better effort. I’ll volunteer to go. Nobody seems to mind going after the Burmese Pythons but, cutesy cats seem to be running amuck. Not all that cute, really. Ted Bundy was cute.
