The Southeast Tourism Society, which promotes economic development through travel and sustainable tourism in 12 states of the Southeast U.S., included the 14th Annual Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival as one of the Top 20 Events for Winter 2011. This is a very big deal, as birding events don’t usually make the list. Congrats to Neta Harris, the Brevard Nature Alliance, and rest of the principals. Expect this year’s festival to be especially big, and not just because I’m going to be there! You’d be wise to book your tickets ASAP.
A Great Birding event! I hope to be there in January!
This is terrific news and so well deserved. I’d heard so much positive buzz about that event before I finally got to go about 4 years ago, and I’ve been back every year since. Not only is Space Coast a big, energetic event, it’s also got a real sense of purpose. Of all the festivals I’ve been to, this one most clearly projects the sense that birders assembling in big numbers is one of the best ways we can advocate for the preservation of bird habitat. Use it, and use it in a way that’s visible, or lose it. It’s a great message.
So glad to hear you’ll be down there this year, Mike! Barbara Hoelscher, the Festival Coordinator, just asked me to put together a program on the horsehoe crab spawing and shorebird migration around Delaware Bay, so I’m looking forward to debuting that at Space Coast ’11.
