The Department of Transportation will not be removing the House Sparrow nest from a crosswalk signal in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It was determined that the sparrows were not negatively effecting the function of the signal.

I’m glad this is the outcome; this was a big “are you kidding me?” when the DOT initially stated they’d remove them (they had the caveat “if they’re interfering with the signal,” or whatever, but I questioned whether they’d consider that appropriately). The pic in the Post was great…
