Though it took place in a zoo the video below definitely shows some wild behavior. If you don’t want to see a bird killed and eaten then don’t watch it. (Instead may I recommend some cuteness?) If you have the stomach for nature, red in tooth and claw, then watch away!
Crazy, no?
Lucky the lion didn’t lose an eye. Fascinating.
Can you imagine going to a zoo and witnessing that? Pretty amazing. Sad, yet amazing. Poor Heron. Hope his buddies learned from him. That’s alot of lions in one exhibit. Seems like alot to control for the keepers. At least the lions had some excitement for the day. Thanks for sharing.
What a video! You can see how that lioness sees her chance and immediately stalks through the logs and rocks in the exhibit to catch the heron. On a similar, less dramatic note, I once saw a Black Bear catch and eat a rat at the Buffalo Zoo.
And I once observed 2 Great Blue Herons in the San Diego, CA environs standing in a field picking off ground squirrels as they exited their dens.
