….chickadees?!?
Say wha?!?
That’s right, friends. It’s Mardi Gras in New Orleans and in the best traditions of this renowned bacchanal, we exhort you, nay beg you to show us your chickadees, titmice, and tits.
Everyone loves a chickadee. There’s no denying it. In fact, 10,000 Birds readers voted the chickadee Most Beloved Backyard Bird 2008 and we didn’t even bother running the poll again this year because we knew who would win! Whether you live in the New World and refer to the various passerines in Paridae as chickadees and titmice or dwell in the Old World and know them as tits, if you like birds, you LOVE these cheeky birds.
I asked readers to submit links to their posts about any species of chickadee, titmouse, or tit and included them below. This way, those of us who can’t spend Fat Tuesday in the French Quarter can still get our share of, you know, chickadees.

What a great idea! Thanks for doing this it will be fun to see what gets posted..
Cheeky indeed! Years ago I helped with some bird banding. One trick of the trade is to hold birds on their backs. Like rabbits, they usually go into an inert trance, becoming easy to handle.
Not so chickadees! They’re used to hanging upside down, and have a few tricks of their own. One of their favourites is to grab the web between your fingers in their beaks, and twist! It’s a memorable experience.
Incidentally, I do like chickadees, but my favourite is another high-spirited character, the cedar waxwing.
Done. Even if I don’t get any beads.
Fun idea
I hope my entry isn’t to “blue”
Done! This was a great idea
I left a suet chickadee.
