Experienced birders know that birding is as much about listening as it is about seeing. While 10,000 Birds has traditionally focused on writing and photography—the visual side of birding—we’re now adding podcasts to highlight the importance of sound. Some of our authors already produce birding podcasts, and we’ll be sharing brief descriptions of each new episode here on 10,000 Birds.
There are so many wonderful birds, birders, and places to explore around the world. Hannah and Erik want to explore them all! Join them as they discuss their most recent adventures and birding topics. They seek to share what they know and what they have learned so that others can explore some amazing places too.
In this episode of Hannah and Erik Go Birding, they discuss the recent Flock to Marion cruise. BirdLife South Africa hosted the Flock to Marion cruise in January to fundraise for the Mouse-Free Marion project, an effort to eradicate house mice from Marion Island that are attacking albatross chicks and threatening the species. It’s an incredible trip to see uncommon seabirds, like flocks of prions, petrels, and albatross on board an MSC Cruise with 2,000 other birders.

Hannah Buschert started birding in college thanks to a required Biology of Birds course and a professor who included Sir David Attenborough’s Life of Birds to punctuate lessons. Almost as if by accident, Hannah landed the dream job of Park Ranger in the Rio Grande Valley at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park where she guided many birders who filled her head with far-off destinations and incredible birds. Consequently, her beat is Adventures in Birding Here and There.Called home to the Oregon Coast to operate the family motel, in her free time Hannah leads Tufted Puffin walks and escapes to guide at birding festivals and explore the world as often as possible. Hannah is passionate about travel, tourism, and birding and hopes to inspire others through her podcasts: Hannah and Erik Go Birding, Women Birders (Happy Hour), and Bird Nerd Book Club.
