Looking for a place to initiate discussion or share something random yet compelling related to birds, birding, nature, or conservation? You’ve found it. Welcome to our Weekly Wednesday Open Thread!
Don’t be too rude, crude, or commercial. Otherwise, have at it! Use the comments section to tell everyone what’s on your mind today.
I’ll start the proceedings, but feel free to take the conversation in a different direction:
Since I’ve just arrived at the fabulous Annual Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival, birding festivals are on my mind. Have you ever been to a birding festival or large organized group event? If so, which are your favorites?
Never done a fair, but I think this thread should be used to wish Aussies a happy Australia Day! Here’s to kookaburras, emus and cockatoos!
I have also never been to one, and this threat seems somewhat related to the “do birds count if you see them alone” question in that many birders prefer to bird alone.
I guess birding festivals are a lot of fun, but frankly, if I have to “invest” a few days of paid leave (and we know the yearly contingent is limited), I’d rather go to the woods than a festival.
Just my personal take.
And here’s to Inland Taipan, Brown Snake, and Funnel-web spiders.
And to Green Tree Frogs hunting adult Saltwater Crocodiles in packs of 30+ 🙂
@Duncan: We don’t want to get too Australian though.
viva los loros!!!
