This may read like something of a non sequitur, but have you ever seen a Rainbow Eucalyptus? Eucalyptus deglupta is a psychedelic beauty, with stunning, striated bark that spans nearly every color of the rainbow. Take a moment to check out how trippy this tree is. When you’re done, come back and we’ll talk birds.
Nice, right? What else is nice is the prospect of seeing brand new birds in beautiful habitat. Corey will be experiencing birding bliss all weekend long at the mighty, mighty Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival. Lucky you if you’re there too! I, on the other hand, will be lollygagging with the usual Western New York winter species.
What will you be doing this weekend and where will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Keep your eyes to the skies. If you’re lucky, you might see a striking shrike perched against a stunning sky!

Tomorrow I will be birding near Harrisburg, PA and then around State College, PA on Sunday. I’m hoping to pick up a few year birds. I need 7 birds to hit 70 for the year. I’ve been in a slump since January 10.
I met Corey today at the Space Coast Birding Festival – he’s actually not a bad guy.
I took his class today – ‘Noon Blog’ – on how to improve your nature blog, and listened very earnestly to his point about “finding your voice”. His class was very well worth it – for the sandwich lunch alone at least (clever move that…teach a class that offers a free lunch…!!)
Corey – although I still have a wall of text and a hell of a long way to go with my own blog, I really did appreciate your time and energy today. Thank you from a beginner birder and blogger…seriously, thanks…!
@Catherine: Thanks! Though “actually not a bad guy” might not be the most glowing endorsement, I’ll take it!
@Catherine: do us competing year listers a favour and nail Corey to his laptop with as many questions as you can think of about blogging. If you run out of questions, give us a shout and we’ll come up with stuff! 🙂
Excellent photography.
Regards and best wishes
