Fall has well and truly fallen. Round these parts, the imperative is to get out there as much as possible before the first snowfall. True, Rochester doesn’t have it quite as bad as Nunavut, but now that autumn is here, I can’t help but note that winter isn’t far off either. So what will you be doing this weekend to celebrate the first weekend of the new season? Will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
My weekend looks pretty jammed up right now with mundane activities so my best birds will be whatever hits my feeder. Corey will be birding Prospect Park on Saturday morning with photoblogger Adam Welz. Charlie is headed down to the Great Bustard Group site with Mark Anderson, Director of BirdLife South Africa so he’s bound to see at least one impressive bird!
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Look to the skies for bird battles like this asymmetrical Red-tailed Hawk vs. Northern Mockingbird battle
cool photo. I like this a lot. Martha and I are doing a six hour forest walk on Saturday and a five hour “wade in the marsh” class Sunday while working on our Master Naturalist certification. We’ll sneak a little time to birdwatch while there.
A mockingbird will take on just about anything, won’t it? I l love this shot.
That sure is one brave Mockingbird. Cool shot! This weekend I am birding from a pontoon boat to look for Sora’s.
Neat picture! That mockingbird looks ready to attack!
Love the mockingbirds, and have been seeing many this week as we vacation on the Outer Banks of North Carolina looking for shorebirds.
wow brilliant images indeed
Beautiful birds! Have a great weekend!!
The weekend is already half over here in Austrlia! Spent yesterday looking for cranes and eagles in Grampians National Park in Victoria (I was half successful). Today I have to drive to Wilson’s Promontory Nationl Park on the other side of Melbourne, but I’ll be stopping at the Cranbourne Annex of the Melbourne Botanial Gardens on the way too look for bandiccots!
My best bird was a red-headed woodpecker at the feeder.
