Happy New Year! Yes, I understand you may feel that 2013 just began and its first weekend comes too quickly, but that is old-fashioned 2012 thinking. This year, the weekends arrive fast and furious. Make the most of them!
This weekend, Corey and I will both begin the cold, careful work of adding local birds to our burgeoning year lists. Many others, no doubt, will do the same. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Keep your eyes to frigid skies
(This is really a photo of Arctic Canada by Clare Kines, but makes me think of all the snow shoveling I’ve been doing lately!)
I’ll be birding in not-so-arctic, wet & soggy Canada. I predict masses of gulls, crows, song sparrows, and geese.
Fantastic shot.
Hopefully I’ll be able to make it to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge 😀
On Sunday I leave Britain to return to New Zealand, via Hong Kong! So a good day of birding to come.
I will be birding within my own county, and I’ll be happy if at the end of it, I will be able to say my new year’s list is “burgeoning.” Right now it’s closer to moribund.
Looking for the Falcated Duck and other waterfowl at Colusa and Sacramento Nat’l. Wildlife Refuges.
Heading to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens for a bird walk. Got to start slow and work my way up.
Hopefully, I will make it to Lafayette, IN to try and find the Varied Thrush that eluded me on New Year’s Day.
