Mid-summer has sprung in the latitudes I spend my time. Are you making the most of your month? Here at 10,000 Birds, we believe in living the first week of August like it was our last. Our Beat Writers can, as usual, be found exploring the more exotic, avian-rich corners of the globe. Corey is beseiging the birds of Seattle as we speak, and I’m enjoying the sight of Chimney Swifts swinging and swooping over the monuments and museums of Washington D.C. How about you? How will you be spending this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
By the time the weekend falls, I’ll be back in western New York, hopefully scoping shorebirds. Corey, on the other hand, will be birding Mount Rainier and Discovery Park… lucky S.O.B.!
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
If you’re anywhere within a thousand miles of Coney Island, you may want to stop by to take in the gorgeous sunrise…
Bagging a mega-rare gull could be icing on the cake!
I wanted to check out the sod fields for shorebird migration but I think TS Emily may spoil my plans. Luckily, I went birding yesterday and came up with a couple of Wilson’s Phalarope.
If storms clear, you will catch me birding at the Everglades Agricultural Area near Belle Glade, FL.
Sunrise is always the best time of day to my way of thinking, because there are so few people about–as your photo illustrates!
SKY OF WONDER
Sky of wonder, sky of bliss,
Who would think a sky like this
Would permit my eyes to see
Sun and moon and stars for free?
