The first weekend of February holds a special place in the hearts of sports fans and advertising aficionados across North America and beyond. Super Bowl Sunday is among my favorite holidays, and this one means more than most as my favorite team is gunning for the NFL Championship. Let’s hear your predictions, people: Who will win the Super Bowl and will any of the commercials be worth talking about on Monday? What’s the over-under on a Madonna wardrobe malfunction?
If I can muster the enthusiasm for a 2-hour drive on Saturday, I might chase the Bohemian Waxwings that have been gobbling berries along Lake Ontario. Corey will be wandering around Queens about on Saturday morning and then searching for a Snowy Owlwith his folks when they visit NYC on Sunday.
What will you be doing this weekend and where will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Keep your eyes to the skies for wicked weather. Cyclone!

Offshore.
It’s Waitangi Day on Monday so a long one for us. I have no particular plans but I want to get out for one day, maybe convince a friend of mine to go for a drive and look for Riflemen.
One fantastic sky. It feels a little chilly in the photo but I love the lightness in the sky and the billowy clouds. Also hoping the Giants win since I’m from NY 🙂
God Bless all creatures, small and great, especially the shorebirds and the people who count them.
Great shot.
Well, I’m sort of living in Oakland so I need to check out Arrowhead Marsh for the first time…there’s also a Slaty-backed Gull around too…
Heading to the Rio Salado Habitat along the Salt River in Tempe, AZ. Hoping to catch some early warblers.
This weekend I will be at Jamaica Bay and then on Sunday will be in the ocean looking for alcids.
Lovely scene.
Regards and best wishes
