This weekend, we’re celebrating Independence Day in the good old U.S. of A. The 4th of July means a lot of things to Americans, among them fireworks, parades, barbecues, and best of all, three days in a long summer weekend. While birding isn’t traditionally associated with this holiday, enterprising enthusiasts usually find a place to fit it in! So how are you spending the first weekend of July and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below!
I and my family are headed back down to Potter County, PA for equal parts work and relaxation. The birding was so enjoyable a couple of weeks ago that I can’t wait to get back. Charlie just moved house to a fancy estate. With hope, he’ll get a chance to wander the grounds and meet his avian neighbors. Corey, of course, will be birding up a storm… catch him if you can.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday…
If you like this view from a van in Kazakhstan, Corey’s got nine more for you!
I’ll be chasing Mississippi Kites upstate tomorrow (it’s been awhile since I had a lifer in the ABA area) and on Sunday I’ll be somewhere around NYC.
Rockport, Mass… starting our vacation week. Will include at least one pelagic trip – I hope.
I’ll be hopefully getting Corey on his life Mississippi Kites…
I’ll be chillin’ in Nairobi. I was just thinking last night that I’ve been out of the States on four of the last five 4th of Julys. Good birding, all!
Oh, I forgot about that Kite. Dang!
Sue, good luck getting out on the water. The alcids should look great this time of year if they’re around!
David, I haven’t forgotten about your current location, especially after that last mousebird et al post of yours.
Beautiful shot Mike, love the countryside.
Have a great weekend

I think I’ll take a walk in the Eno River SP in Durham. Can you believe I still haven’t seen a Louisiana Waterthrush this year? Dang baby…
A desolate but beautiful scene. I’m glad I visited and had a chance to see it.
