With the arrival of May, we turn from bird love to migrant mania. Forget March Madness… this is when things get crazy for those in sync with the endless sojourns of countless species. Make the most of this special time!
Speaking of making the most of special times, I’m taking my (very, very, very lucky) kids down to Orlando for a long weekend of intense recreation. Yes, we are doing Disney, so share your survival tips! And yes, I’m bringing my bins. Corey will be traveling as well this weekend, making his way to the Windy City for a conference. He hopes to sneak off for at least part of one morning to look for birds. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below…
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Blue skies meet blue water at Florida’s Loggerhead Key
(Find out from James Currie why this sublime view is not the only reason to check the Dry Tortugas off your bucket list!)
Northwest Ohio! Does anywhere else exist this time of year? 😉
I was supposed to be visiting the location of your lovely picture this weekend, but that got canceled so I’ll just be birding somewhere near home in southeastern Pennsylvania. This is a good time for spring migrants. Our local bird club has a nice field trip on Sunday so that’s one possibility.
Bosque del Apache, New Mexico per ushe
Saw my first Scarlet Tanager. A species you guys back East selfishly keep to yourselves. Also, a Common Gallinule, a first for me in New Mex.
A group of friends and I drove north this weekend to Okinawa, Japan’s Yambaru Forest. We tallied 18 endemic Okinawa Rails (Yambaru Kuina) in a two hour period, not too shoddy for an endangengerd species.
