Feel the chill in the air? See those leaves changing? These are signs of autumnal onset in the Northern Hemisphere. If you live in the United States, you’ve probably noticed a more reliable indicator: an insidious aggregation of Halloween candy and costumes in every single retail store. Scary! What will you be doing on this first weekend of October? Will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Charlie and I will both be too busy with various projects and responsibilities to spare birds more than a passing glance. Such a state of affairs is sad indeed from a birding perspective but fortunately Corey will be picking up the slack. He’s got a car this weekend and he’s raring to use it to chase down any rarity in his radius. Let him know if you spot anything special on the eastern seaboard!
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Keep your eyes to the skies for migrating shorebirds like these Wilson’s Snipe out of Ottawa NWR in Ohio

Veracruz. Should be a big time!
Raleigh – I’m just going to look at whatever birds I can find here! I’m new to birding, so I’m just going out to take some photos and see what’s here.
Those two look like they are having fun! 🙂
Hopefully heading over to Hawk Mountain.
I am not into birding, but I truly enjoy seeing what you have to offer. Ver nice shot of the birds.
Cool shot of the Snipes. I would love to see any kind of Snipe.
The weather is great here. I would love to do some local birding here in SC Kansas.
First few days of the month, so local birding for me – Arrow Valley Park, the only decent bit of Redditch.
The local patch again with the kid. It’s Beerfest weekend, which usually means the start of sparrows round these parts.
