Fall can be a funny time here in the temperate regions. One week, you’re blasting the air conditioning and the next has you firing up the furnace. And yet our winter residents soldier on without even earmuffs. How do those chickadees do it?

Brookdale Park, Montclair, NJ, tomorrow from 7:30 to 9:00 am or so. The conservancy scheduled this a long time ago, on my prediction that this would be one of the prettiest weekends of the fall.
