By the fourth weekend of July, you should have a clear idea what kind of summer you’re dealing with. If past serves as prologue where I live, this will be the summer that never was. How is your summer shaping up? How will you be celebrating summer this weekend and is bird watching on the itinerary? Share your plans in the comments below!
I’m headed down to the Bronx to spend time with my brother, who is convalescing from surgery. Consequently, birding is not on the docket. Charlie shan’t be birding either, though he will be visiting the International Bird Rescue Research Center (IBRRC) on Sunday. That’s cool though Corey will probably see enough birds for all of us!
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday…
To the Huachucas to look for the Brown-backed Solitaire–us and probably 10,000 other birders.
To be more specific I will be exploring the mucky north end of the East Pond at Jamaica Bay for shorebirds…
I’m thinking of hiking out to N 44.56759 and W -123.33376 and seeing what I can see. Hopefully there’ll be birds, birds, birds. But either way i’m sure i’ll be in for some lovely flora.
Clay Taylor from Swarovski is coming to Chapel Hill to do a digiscoping workshop at the local bird store. I’m planning to go see what he has to say about my terrible photos. 🙂
That’s a big bird. Nice skywatch.
My favorite bird of the week!
very funny.
wishing you a grand time with your brother.
All the best to your brother!
After a record count of the White-shouldered Ibis in Cambodia, we’ll be expecting nothing short of an Eskimo Curlew from Corey.
Me?
I’ll likely be birding the boring fields south of Heidelberg, but as I’ll be doing this while pushing my son’s stroller (with him seated comfortably inside), it shall be an exciting weekend nonetheless.
What summer?
*sob*
That’s one big bird!
Happy SkyWatch Friday!
Mike, question re gannets, which you wrote about sometime in ’07. We hae an influx of them around this time every year, mostly wing injuries. Question is, what exactly is their range, migration patterns etc. I can research all I want but never get enough info. Some sites give parts of Canada and Great Brittain, others extend to Africa. Thanks in advance for any personal knowledge you may share.
Over the weekend I saw six sandhill cranes in flight, and a Red-tail hawk flying off with a snake in its claws. That’s some chicken!
