Keep your eyes to the skies… maybe you’ll see pelicans!
(Australian Pelicans over Lake Bindegolly by Clare Morton)
Welcome to spring, all you denizens of the Northern Hemisphere! To the austral members of our audience, I bid a happy fall. Has anyone noticed great changes in your local avifauna over the last day or two? Probably not. Seasons, like species, have far fuzzier boundaries than many of us would like. But that ambiguity only adds to the fun, so enjoy these nascent days of a new season…
I’ll be experiencing early spring on the go as I rush from place to place this weekend. Corey will take a more measured approach as he scours Queens and Nassau County for the first wave of the vernal vanguard. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
I will probably see Brown Pelicans along with a hundred or so other species while guiding at Carara National Park in Costa Rica.
Great photo, lovely post for the sky-theme!
Wow…that is amazing! I have never seen “wild” Pelicans flying in the sky…

In my back yard (since we have a pair of nesting American Kestrels just over the fence) and/or Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site (El Paso, TX). Spring has definitely arrived here!
Cool! Happy sky watching.
My sky.
Looking for wintering ducks (without a scope) and early migrants at Montrose Point in Chicago.
Love the photo!
