Now that September is mere weeks away, I feel like my summer is finally beginning. We’ve had at least three days in a row without rain and daytime temps sometimes touch 80 degrees. Of course, before we know it, we’ll wake up to frost! Make the most of every weekend regardless of the season, people. What will you be doing this weekend? Is birding part of the program? Share your plans in the comments below (and be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!)
I’m headed down to the NYC area for family time. Regrettably, birding will not be on my itinerary. This marks the second trip down there within a month where I’m denied visits to some of my favorite birding hotspots. Corey will try to see enough birds for both of us at Jamaica Bay (lucky sod!) and other auspicious locales. Charlie is a man on the move; one can only wonder what marvels he’ll behold this weekend.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday…
Good times at Lake Skaneatles, NY
I’ll be banding hummingbirds in Pearl, Idaho on Saturday morning. Everyone is invited! http://avimor.blogspot.com
80 miles off Belmar, NJ with See Life Paulagics. White-faced Storm Petrels are possible, and Green-faced Up Chukkars are likely.
Perhaps you can swing through Central Park this weekend and catch a few birds!
A lovely sky.
Summer came and went yesterday here in Connecticut. We were wise enough to notice.
I’ll be birding on NamibRand Nature Reserve, where I will be working for three weeks.
@Paul: Enjoy the pelagic! Make sure to get a spot near Paul so you can hear the field marks to look for.
I’ll be at Jamaica Bay (NYC) at the Shorebird Festival on Sunday!
@Corey: Thanks, that’s good advice. The other time to get a spot near Paul is inbound when he’s passing out craft brews and the “Lagerhead Shrikes” live up to their name.
Avra Valley sewage plant, the finest shorebirding near Tucson–finally open again after 31 months of construction.

I think we’ll go look for the spoonbills in the Dollard area (between the Netherlands and Germany) http://bit.ly/15eneX
This weekend? Unless their are birds nesting in the spare room’s closet, I won’t be snapping any pics. We’ve got company coming and I have to unmuck the place!
A beautiful sky to portray the flag. I for one am looking forward to cooler nights and days! It definitely has been an odd twist of weather patterns for the entire country this year… enjoy your weekend.
This weekend starts my 2 week vacation on the West Coast. So I’ll be birding in and around Olympia, WA before making my way south to San Francisco.
I did quite a bit of birding this weekend, there’s a bunch of small trails in upstate NY north of Albany that are great. Earlier today (9 Aug) I walked in Moreau Lake State Park (near Saratoga Springs, NY) and birded there, although we are getting unseasonably cool and humid weather.
Best sighting I had was a great egret! I also enjoyed the female and juvenile wood ducks, and was pooped on by a blue-headed vireo.
