August is here, which means that all too soon your local migratory birds will be gone, as will our long, lazy days of summer. Enjoy them — the birds and the days — while they last! What will you be doing this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
The men of 10,000 Birds are all remaining close to home this weekend. We hope you’ll be more adventurous! Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
That shot has the ‘Ohhh Ahhh’ factor! Excellent!
Brilliantly captured!!
Great capture of the Sunrise with the sun rays streaming out from the clouds.
awesome. Love those rays.
Great perspective…super capture. Thanks for sharing.
I’ll be chasing rufous-crowned emu-wrens near Ormiston Gorge, NT Australia this weekend. Tons of rain has greened up the desert nicely and the birds are booming. Its going to great…
Wonderful SkyWatch Photo

My SkyWatch Friday
Awesome sky photo, just gorgeous.
I’m going to go to the Shorebird Festival on Saturday at the Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
Great shooting sky. Cool pic.
This is beautiful. I love those sun rays!
Hmmm, let’s see… Leimen?
I guess.
This is how sunrises should look. Way to go!
@Joseph: So jealous that I won’t be able to make it out to Jamaica Bay this weekend. Tell us how it goes!
If I get any birding in at all, it will probably be at Croton Point Park along the Hudson River. Beautiful weather for it!
@Joseph: That sounds awesome! I wish I could go.
I will probably be guiding at some productive rainforests near San Ramon, Costa Rica. I have to say “probably” because although we are scheduled to bird that excellent area (got over 100 species in one day the last time I was there), there has been tons of precipitation as of late so there is a good chance that we will get rained out.
Walking the beaches of Southern Alabama, with the Great Blue Heron, Semipalmated Plovers, and other shorebirds
I’ll be doing (actually done) the parks of Kuala Lumpur on Friday (counting it as the weekend since I am flying all Saturday. Sunday I’ll be birding rural Cheshire for the first time in 4 years.
I birded the NJ Pine Barrens today and saw Upland sandpiper, horned lark, grasshopper sparrow, spotted sandpiper, a pine warbler family, and a few flycatchers. It was very quiet, though certainly the birds must have been there.
